World: Barley production forecast slightly reduced this month
Global barley production forecast is slightly reduced in RMI Analytics latest journal published earlier this month to 146.2 mln tonnes, down from 146.6 mln as a result of recent extreme heat across much of Europe.
This result is 1.5 mln tonnes below crop 2021 and 12.6 mln tonnes below crop 2020, leaving the supply and demand in a tight situation.
The six major barley growing regions show crop 2022 production at 109.7 mln tonnes, 4.1 mln tonnes below crop 2021 and mainly due to the drop in Ukraine. Barley production for the rest of the world is good.
World barley prices are mostly lower this month with French prices the exception, mainly due to the rebounding in EUR.
Canada remains a slight premium to France while Argentina has closed the gap. Australia remains the low-cost barley option globally.
